The firm
Legal advice with commercial judgement.
BLL Abogados is a corporate law firm. We work across commercial, corporate and civil matters through a stable relationship with the company, so that decisions are taken with the full legal picture and while there is still room to act.
Approach
Why this firm exists.
One pattern repeats in advising companies: matters arrive late. The shareholder dispute surfaces when there is no shareholders’ agreement; the contractual claim, when the contract was signed without review; the insolvency crisis, once public debt has already built up. In every one of those cases there was an earlier moment — cheaper and more effective — to step in.
Our approach is to occupy that earlier moment. That takes more than technical knowledge: it takes knowing the company — its structure, its critical contracts, its shareholders and its history — closely enough to spot the risk before it materialises.
It is also a decision about size. A firm that takes on more matters than it can follow closely stops providing this service, however it advertises itself. That is why we limit the number of retained clients.
Principles
Four commitments we apply to every engagement.
- 01
Clarity over volume
A forty-page report rarely helps anyone decide. We deliver ordered conclusions, with the recommendation first and the reasoning behind it, so that management can act.
- 02
Honest forecasting
We give a realistic estimate of prospects, cost and timing at the outset, and revise it if circumstances change. We would rather lose an engagement than take it on against odds we know to be poor.
- 03
Prevention over litigation
We create more value drafting a contract well than defending it afterwards. When litigation is unavoidable we prepare thoroughly; when it is not, we say so.
- 04
Strict confidentiality
Professional privilege is the basis of the relationship. We also apply technical and organisational information security measures proportionate to the sensitivity of what is entrusted to us.
Fees
Three ways of working together.
In every case the fee estimate is provided in writing before work begins. No open-ended items, no surprise invoices.
- 01
Retained advice
A monthly fee with a defined scope: day-to-day queries, review of routine contracts, preparation of general meetings and follow-up of open matters. For companies that need availability, not a one-off engagement.
- 02
Fixed-scope engagement
A closed fee per transaction or proceeding, with the scope set out in writing before we start and advance notice if any circumstance requires revising it.
- 03
Second opinion
An independent review of an ongoing transaction or of advice already given, delivered within a short deadline. With no commitment to continue.
